Otis Ray Redding Jr. (9 September 1941 - 10 Desember 1967) was 'n Amerikaanse sanger-liedjieskrywer. Hy word beskou as een van die grootste sanger-liedjieskrywers wat Amerikaanse popmusiek opgelewer het en was 'n invloedryke kunstenaar in Soulmusiek en rhythm and blues (R&B). Sy bynaam was die "King of Soul",^[2] Redding is geïnspireer deur gospelmusiek wat dié genre voorafgegaan het. Sy vokale styl het baie ander soulkunstenaar van die 1960's beïnvloed.

Redding is gebore in Dawson, Georgia. Kort hierna het die gesin na Macon, Georgia verhuis. Hy het hoërskool op 15-jarige ouderdom verlaat om sy gesin te onderhou, en gewerk saam met Little Richard se "backing band", the Upsetters, en aan talentprogramme deelgeneem by Macon se historiese Douglass Theatre. In 1958 het Redding aangesluit by Johnny Jenkins se "band", die Pinetoppers, saam met wie hy as sanger en bestuurder deur die Suidelike state getoer het. Redding het later by die gewilde Los Angeles-nagklub Whisky a Go Go opgetree, en deur Europa getoer en in Londen, Parys en ander groot stede opgetree. In 1967 het hy tydens die Monterey Pop Festival opgetree.

Kort voor sy vroeë dood in 'n vliegtuigongeluk het Redding sy ikoniese liedjie "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" saam met Steve Cropper geskryf en opgeneem. Die liedjie, wat in Januarie 1968 vrygestel is, het die eerste postuum no. 1 album op beide die Billboard Hot 100 en Billboard Hot R&B trefferlyste geword. Die album The Dock of the Bay was die eerste postuum album wat nommer een op die UK Albums-trefferlys bereik het. Redding se voortydige dood het Stax verwoes.
