Host selection

Sports

In addition to the 15 mandatory sports, the organizing committee chose three more respecting the infrastructure and local demands. Rhine-Ruhr region has proposed beach volleyball, rowing and 3x3 basketball, along some paralympic disciplines as its optional sports. This will be the first time that 3x3 basketball will be part of the World University Summer Games program, while beach volleyball returns after a twelve years of hiatus, the last time being held in Kazan 2013, while rowing remains on the list, as is scheduled to be held Chengdu 2021 program.
