BoyNextDoor (Korean보이넥스트도어; RRBoinekseuteudoeo; MRPoineksŭt'ŭdoŏ; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean boy band formed by KOZ Entertainment. The group consists of six members: Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan, and Woonhak. The group debuted on May 30, 2023, with the single album Who!.

History

2019–2023: Formation and introduction

In 2019, rapper-producer Zico founded KOZ Entertainment as a subsidiary of Hybe Corporation.[1] Members Sungho and Riwoo passed their auditions for the agency in September 2021.[2]

In 2022, Zico confirmed that the agency was in the process of producing a boy band, with himself serving as its producer.[3] He stated in an interview on the web series Turkiyes on the Block that he will "break the predictable formula" in regards to the group.[3]

On April 16, 2023, the agency announced the formation of their first boy band, named BoyNextDoor, through the release of a "logo motion" on YouTube.[4] They explained that the group's name suggests that the boy band "will be friendly and approachable, like boys living next door".[5] The following month, on May 14, the company released a series of GIFs depicting each member on the group's social media platforms.[2] The group received large-scale promotions in the run-up to their debut.[6]

2023–present: Debut with Who! and Why..

On May 23, 2023, BoyNextDoor released the music video for the single "But I Like You", followed by the music video for "One and Only" on May 26, both of which would be featured on their upcoming debut single album.[7] On May 30, the group made their debut with the release of the single album Who! alongside the single "Serenade" and its music video.[8][9] Zico took part in the creative process behind the group's debut album, and members Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak took part in composing and writing the lyrics for "Serenade" and "But I Like You".[10]

On July 13, 2023, KOZ announced that the group would release new music in September 2023.[11][12] The new release, an extended play titled Why.., was announced on August 8, through a black-and-white teaser image depicting a carousel ride.[13]

On November 7, 2023, the group released "Fade Away", a song for Naver webtoon Garbage Time.[14]

On February 13, 2024, media reports that BoyNextDoor will release a new album in April 2024.[15]

Artistry

According to KOZ Entertainment, BoyNextDoor aims to create music about "the daily lives of their peers".[16] The members, who involve themselves in the production of their music, described their music as "easy listening and natural".[17]
