Kalathil Sree Rudra Devi Temple, known as Kalathil Sree Rudhiramala Bhagavathi Temple is located at east side of Manathala, near the bank of Conolly Canal in Chavakkad, Thrissur district, Kerala.[1][2][3] It is one of the rare temples in Kerala, with Chithrakkoodakkallus to worship serpent deities.[4][5]

Legend

Since the ancient time, Kalathil family is a large joint family(ancestral home) of Ezhava at Chavakkad. And, the deity worshiped in the temple is a brahmin woman, who was lived at Kannathur village(A part of ancient Kannur) before 1000 years. Incidentally, an ancestor of Kalathil family came to Kannathur, become loved with the lady and they got married.[6][2]

Sub Deities

There are two sarpa kavus here; Melekkaavu, exists behind of the temple and Keezhekkaavu, exists inside of the temple.
