Kōji Matsui (松井 孝治, Matsui Kōji, born April 24, 1960) is a Japanese politician. Matsui was a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet from Kyoto at-large district for two terms between 2001 and 2013, as a member of the Democratic Party of Japan. In 2024 he was elected Mayor of Kyoto.[1]

A native of Kyoto, Kyoto and graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, receiving a master's degree from Northwestern University while in the ministry. Leaving the ministry in 2000, he was elected to the House of Councillors for the first time in 2001. Between 2009–2010 he was Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary in the Hatoyama Cabinet.
