Template:R to portal namespace
When used with the "Redirect category shell" (Rcat shell) template:
- Template {Redirect category shell} may be used to add one or more rcat templates, along with their parameters and categories, to a redirect. For more information, see the documentation page below.
When used by itself:
- To a portal page: This is a redirect from any page inside or outside of portal namespace to a page in that namespace. The above category link leads to a list of redirects from inside portal space. For a list of redirects from outside portal space, see Category:Redirects to portal namespace.
Purpose
This redirect category (rcat) template sorts redirects into one of two categories:
- Category:Redirects to portal namespace – for PNRs and CNRs, or
- Category:Redirects to portals – for portal redirects to other portal pages
This rcat also populates the following:
- Category:Unprintworthy redirects – redirects from the main-article namespace (mainspace)
- In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace redirects that target pages in the portal namespace are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
Usage
- Apply this rcat to a redirect in the following manner:

- and when the redirect is in article mainspace, printworthiness should also be tagged:
#REDIRECT [[Portal:(target page name)]]

- Template {Rcat shell} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[Portal:(target page name)]]

- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat to tag any redirect in any namespace (including the portal namespace) that targets a page in the portal namespace. This rcat will automatically sort redirects as either inside or outside the portal namespace.
