The ZiL-130 is a Soviet/Russian truck produced by ZiL in Moscow, Russia. The first prototype was built in 1956, and had an all-new cabin, as well as a wider, wraparound windshield, and a V-shaped emblem identical to 1956 Ford F-Series trucks.[2] The trucks started being built in 1962, while mass production started in 1964. Mechanically, it retained only few parts from the previous ZIL-164 truck, while the engine came from the ZIL-111.[3] It was one of the most numerous cargo trucks in the USSR and Russia, in total ZIL built 3,380,000 trucks up to 1994.

In 1973, the vehicle was awarded the State Seal of Quality of the USSR. A year later, the one millionth ZIL-130 was assembled. At the same time, production began in an external passenger car assembly plant of a version specially adapted to the climatic conditions of the far north. In addition, a model with an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine was added to production. In 1977, another model with a significantly longer wheelbase was launched, and in 1980 various further modifications of the vehicle were introduced.[4][5]

Also at the beginning of the 1980s, the ZIL-138 was launched on the market, a version that could be operated with gaseous fuels. In 1986, the models were renamed according to the standard that had been in force since 1966. The ZIL-130 became the ZIL-431410, and all other modifications were also given new numbers.[4]

On December 30, 1994, after 32 years, the ZIL plant in Moscow finally ceased production of the model and its modifications. By then, 3,388,312 ZIL-130s had rolled off the production line. From this point on, the Uralsky Avtomotorny Zavod (UAmZ for short) continued to manufacture the truck, now under the designation UAMZ-43140. Later, the plant was renamed "AMUR", the truck corresponding to the AMUR-43140. The only major technical change was that the cab of the ZIL-131 was used, which the plant also continued to produce after the end of production in Moscow.[4]

There, the truck was produced until 2010.[4][6]

Modifications

Over the course of production, there were two modernizations of the ZIL-130 in 1966 and 1977. After the second one the radiator enclosure was changed.
