Phantasy Star (jap. ファンタシースター) on Segan kehittämä ja julkaisema roolipelisarja. Tyyliltään sarja on sekoitus scifiä ja fantasiaa.
Historia
Sarjan ensimmäinen osa julkaistiin Sega Master Systemille Japanissa 20. joulukuuta 1987. Pelissä on monia roolipelien lajityypille ominaisia piirteitä pelimekaniikassa.[1]
Phantasy Star yhdisti tieteisfiktiota ja fantasiaa ja loi oman identiteetin aikana, jolloin Dragon Questin kaltaisten pelien julkaiseminen oli yleistä.[2]
Sarjaan kuuluva verkkomoninpeli Phantasy Star Online 2 julkaistiin länsimaissa vuonna 2020 kahdeksan vuotta Japanin julkaisun jälkeen.[3] Peliin on tulossa New Genesis päivitys vuonna 2021.[3] Pelin julkaisua länsimaissa viivästyttivät tarpeellisten toimintojen puuttuminen kuten palvelupäivityksien kommunikoiminen.[3]
