Le proto-bantou, ou bantou commun, est une langue préhistorique et reconstruite sans témoignage écrit, supposée être à l'origine de toutes les langues dites « bantoues ». Elle a été très partiellement reconstruite à partir de la comparaison entre les langues, actuelles ou anciennes, qui en sont issues. Notre connaissance du proto-bantou repose donc sur la linguistique comparée, et notamment sur la phonétique historique. On peut reconstruire quelques aspects de phonologie de lexique et de morphologie.
