ג'ף ברלין (באנגלית: Jeff Berlin; נולד ב-17 בינואר 1953) הוא בסיסט יהודי-אמריקאי,[1] הידוע בשיתופיו עם הלהקה של ביל ברופורד בשנות השבעים המאוחרות, איתם ניגן והקליט רבות.

ביוגרפיה

ברלין נולד בקווינס, ניו יורק. הוא החל במקור בנגינה על כינור למשך 10 שנים, אך כאשר שמע את הביטלס, קיבל השראה לנגן בגיטרה בס.[2] מאוחר יותר החל ברלין ללמוד במכללת ברקלי למוזיקה, שם למד במחלקת בס.[3]

סגנון והערכה

באחת הסקירות על אלבומו "Low Standards", כתב המגזין Bass Musician Magazine: "נראה כי בכל פעם שאני מציין את השם "ג'ף ברלין", גל גדול מאוד של תומכי ברלין ויריביו, נסחף אל פני השטח ואלו מביעים את דעותיהם. לא משנה איפה אתה עומד ביחס לפילוסופיה המוזיקלית של ג'ף, אף אחד לא יכול להכחיש את העובדה הפשוטה שג'ף הוא אשף בתחומו, והוא אחד מהנגנים הגדולים ביותר בכל הזמנים".[4]

סגנון נגינתו של ברלין הושווה פעמים רבות לסגנונו של ג'אקו פסטוריוס, אומנם ברלין הביע את דעתו מזה כבר על אלו המתיימרים לנגן בסגנונו של פסטוריוס, מהם הוא סולד (אותם הוא מכנה "Jaco-imitators").[5]
