Dopo sette anni si è interrotta la serie di successi australiani. Il titolo è andato agli statunitensi Gardnar Mulloy e Budge Patty, che hanno sconfitto in finale Neale Fraser e Lew Hoad con il punteggio di 8–10, 8–6, 6–4, 6–4.

Gardnar Mulloy è stato capace di trionfare all'età di 43 anni e 226 giorni, risultando l'uomo più anziano ad alzare un trofeo sui campi londinesi.^[1] La coppia vincitrice è stata premiata in campo dalla regina Elisabetta II, che ha assistito all'incontro dal Royal Box.^[2]
