사기문진드기목은 기생진드기상목에 속하는 진드기의 하위 목이다. 화석에 대해서는 알려진 것이 없다. 몸 길이가 2mm 이상이고 몹시 경화된 몸을 가진 비교적 큰 진드기다. 사기문진드기목은 하위 Allothyridae과, Holothyridae과, Neothyridae과로 나뉜다. 1998년 실험 연구에서 Allothyridae과의 종들은 살아있는 동물들은 무시하지만 죽은 절지동물들의 체액을 손쉽게 섭취하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.[1]

사기문진드기기목의 분포는 과거 곤드와나 대륙이었던 곳에 국한된다. 후기문진드기목의 자매군이다.[2]
