ലോകവ്യാപകമായി ഒഇസിഡിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ പഠന പുരോഗതി വിലയിരുത്തുന്ന പരീക്ഷകളിലന്നാണ് പിസ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രോഗ്രാം ഫോർ ഇൻറർനാഷണൽ സ്റ്റുഡൻറ് അസെസ്മെൻറ്. 15 വയസ്സ് പ്രായമുള്ള കുട്ടികളുടെ ഗണിതം,ശാസ്ത്രം,വായന മേഖലകളിലെ അറിവ് പരിശോധിക്കുന്ന പരീക്ഷയാണിത്.[1] 2000ത്തിലാണ് പദ്ധതിക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചത്.ഓരോ മൂന്ന് വർഷം കൂടുമ്പോഴും ഈ പരീക്ഷ നടത്തി വരുന്നു.രാജ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് തങ്ങളുടെ പഠന നിലവാരം ഉയർത്തുന്നതിനും നയങ്ങൾ രൂപവത്ക്കരിക്കുന്നതിനും ഈ പരീക്ഷാഫലം സഹായിക്കുന്നു. പ്രശ്ന നിർദ്ദാരണ ശേഷിയും ഗ്രഹണ ശേഷിയും അളക്കുന്ന വിധത്തിലാണ് പരീക്ഷ ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. [2]
