വൈറ്റ്-ഐ കുടുംബമായ സോസ്റ്ററോപിഡേയിലെ പാസെറൈൻ പക്ഷികളുടെ ഒരു ജനുസ്സാണ് സോസ്റ്റെറോപ്സ്. (meaning "eye-girdle") വൈറ്റ്-ഐ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ഇനം ഈ ജനുസ്സിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ആസ്ട്രോലേഷ്യ ഇക്കോസോൺ, ആഫ്റോട്രോപിക് ഇക്കോറീജിയൻ, ഇൻഡോമലയ മേഖല എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ അവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. 8 മുതൽ 15 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ നീളവും (3.1, 5.9 ഇഞ്ചിലും) ഉള്ള വൈറ്റ്-ഐകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഗ്രൂപ്പിലെ സ്പീഷീസുകളുടെ ഘടനാപരമായ നാക്ക് പരിതഃസ്ഥിതികളോട്‌ ഇണങ്ങാനുള്ള കഴിവ്‌ അനുസരിച്ച് വ്യത്യാസപ്പെട്ടു കാണുന്നു.[1]


ഈ ജീനസിൽ 100 സ്പീഷീസുകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇതിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന മൂന്നു സ്പീഷീസുകൾ (താഴെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഡാഗർ †എന്നു സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു ) പതിനാറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുതൽ വംശനാശം സംഭവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.[2]
