കുക്കുർബിറ്റേസീ സസ്യകുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരു ജനുസാണ് കുക്കുമിസ് (Cucumis). ചെറുപല്ലവങ്ങളുടെ സഹായത്താൽ പിടിച്ചുകയറുന്ന വള്ളിച്ചെടികളാണ് മിക്കവയും. വെള്ളരിയും (Cucumis sativus), തൈക്കുമ്പളവും (Cucumis melo) ഈ ജനുസിൽ ഉള്ളവയാണ്. ആഫ്രിക്കയിൽ 30 സ്പീഷിസുകളും, ഇന്ത്യ, തെക്കുകിഴക്കനേഷ്യ, ആസ്ട്രേലിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ 25 സ്പീഷിസുകളും കാണുന്നു[1]
