ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਂਤ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। 1947 ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਵੰਡ ਦੇ ਬਾਦ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਟੋਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਦ ਪੂਰਵੀ ਬੰਗਾਲ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਲੇਕਿਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਖੇਤਰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਬਣਿਆ ਤਦ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਬੰਗਾਲੀ ਜਾਂ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲਗਾ।
