Anqing (simplifeed Cheenese: 安庆; traditeeonal Cheenese: 安慶; pinyin: Ānqìng; leeterally: "Peaceful Celebration", an aa Anking, formerly Hwaining) is a prefectur-level ceety in the soothwast o Anhui province, Fowkrepublic o Cheenae. It borders Lu'an tae the north, Hefei an Wuhu tae the northeast, Tongling tae the east, Chizhou tae the sootheast, an the provinces o Jiangxi an Hubei tae the sooth an wast respectively.
History
The ceety wis foondit durin the Han Dynasty in the seicont century BC. In the Middle Ages it received the name o Anqing. Frae 1853 tae 1861 it wis held bi the rebels o the Taiping rebellion. It haed a nearly impregnable fortifications. Zeng Guofan began his conquest o the Taiping bi besiegin the poseetion wi dooble walls. He made it his heidquarters efter its faw. Several years later Anqing acame a centre o the wappens industry. Chen Duxiu, co-foonder o the Communist Pairty o Cheenae, wis born here.
