His wirk haes includit advances in optics, specifically laser cuilin o ions in Paul traps an uise o trapped ions tae implement quantum computin operations. He wis awairdit the 2012 Nobel Prize for Pheesics, jyntly wi Serge Haroche, for "grund-breakin experimental methods that enable measurin an manipulation o individual quantum seestems." [3][4]
