The Maroa Municipality is ane o the seiven municipalities (municipios) that mak up the soothren Venezuelan state o Amazonas an, accordin tae the 2011 census bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, the municipality haes a population o 2,029.[1] The toun o Maroa is the shire toun o the Maroa Municipality.[2]
History
Maroa wis foondit by the brave Cacique Maruwa in the year 1760.[3]
Demographics
The Maroa Municipality, accordin tae a 2007 population estimate bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, haes a population o 1,900 (up frae 1,706 in 2000). This amoonts tae 1.3% o the state's population.[4] The municipality's population density is 0.1 inhabitants per square kilometre (0.26/sq mi).[5]
Govrenment
The mayor o the Maroa Municipality is Thaimir Briceño Angulo, electit on 31 October 2004 wi 61% o the vote.[6] She replacit Antonio Briceño shortly efter the elections.[7] The municipality is dividit inta twa pairishes; Victorino an Comunidad (previous tae 18 Dizember 1997, the Maroa Municipality conteened anerly a single pairish).[2]
