Sotk (Armenie: Սոթք, till 1991 Zod) is a toun in the Gegharkunik Province o Armenie.

History

At the end o the 19t century Zod wis a veelage wi 1100 Tatar inhabitants.[1] It grew intae a toun durin the region's industrialisation in the 1960 an 1970s, primarily due tae the exploitation o the Zod gowd mines.[2] Thare is nou a gowd mine an a licht metallurgie fabrication in the ootskirts o the toun. The toun haes a ruined Armenie basilica kirk said tae date frae the 7t century, wi 13t century gravestanes in its waws. The toun wis maistly populatit bi ethnic Azeris till 1988, when they fled tae Azerbaijan as a result o ethnic clashes.[3] The refugees frae Zod foondit the veelage o Yeni Zod in the Goygol rayon o Azerbaijan.[4]
