- Poland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union after Hungary.[1][2]
- Bulgaria and Romania join the Schengen Area, lifting land border controls.[3]
- Liechtenstein becomes the 39th country to legalize same-sex marriage.[4]
- Ukraine halts the transportation of Russian gas supplies through the country, following the expiration of a five-year transit deal,[5] while also becoming a state party in the International Criminal Court the same day.[6]
- In the United States, fifteen people are killed, including the perpetrator, and over 35 others are injured during a vehicle-ramming and shooting attack in New Orleans, Louisiana.[7]
- Thirteen people are killed and four more injured in multiple shootings in Cetinje, Montenegro.[8]
