Cheviot is a town in the Hurunui District of the South Island. It is located on State Highway 1 approximately 112 kilometers north of Christchurch and 68 kilometers south of Kaikōura. It has an area school situated with the town. In 1901 Cheviot had a large earthquake registering 6.9 on the Richter scale.
