John Charles Carney Jr.[1] (born May 20, 1956) is an American politician who has been the Mayor of Wilmington, Delaware since 2025. He was the 74th governor of Delaware from 2017 to 2025. Before becoming governor, he served as the U.S. representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district from 2011 to 2017. He was also the 24th lieutenant governor of Delaware from 2001 to 2009.[2]
Carney also served as Delaware's secretary of finance from 1996 to 2000.
In November 2024, Carney was elected mayor of Wilmington, Delaware in a landslide victory.[3]
