Flora

Flora (Latin: flos, lulja) paraqet botën bimore në përgjithësi, për dallim nga fauna - bota shtazore. Në veçanti, një grup taksonesh bimore të një pjese të caktuar të sipërfaqes së Tokës (kontinenti, zona gjeografike, vendi, rajoni) ose një periudhe të caktuar kohore në të kaluarën ose shtresën gjeologjike të Tokës, p.sh.: flora evropiane, flora e Ballkanit, flora devoniane, flora karbonifere ose flora që i është përshtatur jetës në një mjedis të caktuar, p.sh. flora detare, flora bakteriale e qumështit, flora e zorrëve. Sipas përkatësisë sistematike të taksoneve individuale të bimëve, p.sh. flora e baktereve, flora e algave, flora vaskulare. Duke pasur parasysh numrin e madh të taksoneve bimore, këto janë zona me florë pak a shumë të pasur. Pasuria e veçantë e llojeve të bimëve karakterizohet nga p.sh. flora e Gadishullit Ballkanik. Nga pikëpamja gjeografike, flora e pjesëve të caktuara të Tokës karakterizohet më së miri nga elementët floralë.^[1] ^[2]

Gjeobotanika është disiplina shkencore e cila studion florën e zonave të veçanta.

Etimologjia

Termi "flora" vjen nga gjuha latine Flora, perëndia e bimëve, luleve, dhe pjellorisë në mitologjinë romake. Termi korrespondues për jetën e kafshëve është fauna. Flora, fauna dhe forma të tjera të life si psh kërpudhat janë emërtuar ne mënyre kolektive si biota. Disa flora moderne dhe klasike janë rreshtuar me poshtë. ^[3]^[4]
