ไนโอเบียม (อังกฤษ : Niobium ) เป็นธาตุ ที่มีเลขอะตอม 41 และสัญลักษณ์คือ Nb ไนโอเบียมเป็นโลหะทรานซิชัน มีสีเทาหายาก อ่อนนุ่ม ตีเป็นแผ่นได้ พบในแร่ไนโอไบต์และแร่โคลัมไบต์

ข้อถกเถียงชื่อของธาตุ
ชื่อเก่าของไนโอเบียม 'โคลัมเบียม (อักษรย่อ Cb)'[2] ตั้งชื่อโดย Hatchett จากการค้นพบธาตุในปี 1801 โดยตั้งตามภูมิภาคที่ค้นพบแร่ ที่นำมาสกัดเป็นโลหะที่มีส่วนผสมของไนโอเบียม [3] ต่อมามีการค้นพบและสกัดจากแร่ในภูมิภาคยุโรปและตั้งชื่อว่า ไนโอเบียม และได้มีการจัดให้ใช้ชื่อ ไนโอเบียม ในในการประชุมเคมีนานาชาติครั้งที่ 12 ที่กรุงอัมเตอร์ดัมในปี 1949.[4] ปีต่อมา สหภาพเคมีบริสุทธิ์และเคมีประยุกต์ระหว่างประเทศ (IUPAC)ได้ตกลงให้ใช้ชื่อ ไนโอเบียม
