Peter Gene Hernandez ya da sahne adıyla Bruno Mars (8 Ekim 1985, Honolulu), Amerikalı şarkıcı-şarkı yazarı ve yapımcıdır.^[1] B.o.B'nin "Nothin' on You"^[2] ve Travie McCoy'un "Billionaire" şarkılarına yaptığı katkılarla bilinmektedir.^[3] Ayrıca Flo Rida'nın hit şarkısı "Right Round"un yazarlarından biridir. Şarkıcının çıkarmış olduğu Just The Way You Are, The Lazy Song ve Grenade parçaları da yoğun tebrikler aldı. Bunlardan bazıları, 18 Ocak'ta Billboard Hot 100 listesinin 1. sırasındayken, Billboard Digital Songs listesinin de 1. sırasındaydı.

Yaşam öyküsü

İlk yılları

Peter Gene Hernandez olarak Hawaii'nin Honolulu şehrinde dünyaya gelen Bruno Mars'ın, annesi Bernadette San Pedro Bayot Filipinli, babası Peter Hernandez ise yarı Porto Rikolu yarı Aşkenaz Yahudisi kökenlidir.^[4] Altı kardeşten biri olan Hernandez'in dört kız ve bir erkek kardeşi vardır. Bruno Mars'ın müzik yeteneği ailesinden gelmektedir. Ayrıca dans eğitimi de almıştır. Annesi dansçı, babası da perküsyonisttir. Daha 4 yaşındayken haftanın 5 günü aile grubu ile performans sergiliyordu. Küçük yaşlardan itibaren Michael Jackson ve Elvis Presley gibi isimlerin şarkılarını seslendirmeye başladı. Elvis Presley ve Michael Jackson onun en büyük ilham kaynaklarıdır. 1990 yılında MidWeek dergisinin bir sayısında "Little Elvis" olarak yer aldı. 1992'de ise Honeymoon in Vegas filminde Little Elvis'i oynadı.

Müzik yaşamı

President Theodore Roosevelt High School'a başlayan Hernandez, 2003'te buradan mezun oldu ve müzik kariyerine devam etmek için Los Angeles'a taşındı.

Şarkıcı olarak tanınmadan önce Flo Rida, Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy ve Sean Kingston gibi isimlerle çalışan bir prodüktör olarak isim yapmıştı. Şarkıcı olarak ilk müzikal deneyimi Far East Movement'ın ikinci stüdyo albümü olan Animal ile oldu.^[5] B.o.B ile çıkardıkları "Nothin' on You" parçasının elde ettiği başarıdan sonra Hernandez, 11 Mayıs 2010'da It's Better If You Don't Understand adında bir EP yayımladı. Albüm adını "The Other Side" adlı parçada geçen bir sözden alıyordu.^[6]^[7] 2011 yılında 53'üncüsü yapılan Grammy's Müzik Ödüllerinde 7 dalda adaydı fakat sadece 1 tanesini kazanabildi.

Bad Meets Evil'ın yeni albümünde yer alan "Lighters" şarkısında Eminem ve Royce da 5'9" ile düet yapmıştır. Ayrıca Mars, Lil Wayne'in Tha Carter IV albümünde yer alan Mirror şarkısında da Lil Wayne ile düet yapmıştır.

2012 Grammy'lerinde de 6 adaylığı olmasına rağmen hiçbirini kazanamadı.
