کیٹ شیپرڈ ( 10مارچ 1847ء-13جولائی 1934ء) ایک نیوزی لینڈی خاتون تھیں جو نیوزی لینڈ میں عورتوں کے حق رائے دہی کی تحریک کی سب سے اہم اہم شخصیت ہیں ان کا اصل نام کیتھرین ولسن شیپرڈ تھا۔ ان کی شبیہ نیوزی لینڈ کے دس ڈالر کے نوٹ پر موجود ہے۔ نیوزی لینڈ دنیا کا پہلا ملک تھا جہاں 1893ء میں عورتوں کو ووٹ کا حق دیا گیا۔ شیپرڈ کے کام کا اثر بہت سے ممالک کی تحریکوں پر ہوا۔ شیپرڈ نے پہلا ووٹ کا حق کا بل 1887ء میں داخل کیا۔ 1888ء میں انھوں نے ایک کتابچہ بعنوان "نیوزی لینڈ کی عورتوں کے حق رائے دہی کی دس وجوہات" لکھا۔ 1891ء میں ٹمپرنس یونین نے پارلیمنٹ میں عورتوں کے حق رائے دہی کی پٹیشن دائر کی۔ اس پٹیشن کے بنانے میں شیپرڈ نے اہم کردار ادا کیا۔ اس سے اگلے سال اس سے بڑی پٹیشن اور تیسرے سال میں تیسری بڑی پٹیشن داخل کی گئی۔ اس طرح یہ بل منظور ہوا اور عورتوں کو حق رائے دہی ملا۔ جب یہ بل منظور ہوا تو الیکشن کا عمل شروع ہونے میں صرف دس دن باقی تھے۔ شیپرڈ نے عورتوں کو ووٹ کے لیے رجسٹر کرانے میں اہم کردار ادا کیا۔ اتنے کم وقت میں بھی دو تہائی عورتیں ووٹ ڈال سکیں۔ شیپرڈ بعد میں نیشنل کونسل آف وویمن آف نیوزی لینڈ کی صدر منتخب ہوئیں۔[ا]

  1. ↑ Malcolm in The Dictionary of نیوزی لینڈ Biography (1993) said she was born "probably on 10 مارچ 1847"، [7] and some later works have repeated that date, usually omitting the "probably"۔ However, Devaliant 1992, p. 5, says that Kate gave her birth year as 1848.[8] Furthermore, newspaper notices following her death on 13 جولائی 1934, and her gravestone, record her age at death as 86, which indicates 1848 as her birth year.[9][10]
