ക്വർകസ് (/ˈkwɜːrkəs/;[1] എന്ന ജീനസിൽ പെടുന്ന വൃക്ഷമോ കുറ്റിച്ചെടിയോ ആണ് ഓക്ക് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് 600 സ്പീഷീസുകൾ നിലവിലുണ്ട്. ഓക്ക് എന്ന പേര് ഇതുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള സ്പീഷീസുകളിൽ പെട്ട മരങ്ങൾക്കും സാധാരണഗതിയിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഉത്തരാർദ്ധഗോളത്തിലാണ് ഈ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഇലപൊഴിക്കുന്നതും നിത്യഹരിതമായതുമായ സ്പീഷീസുകൾ ഇക്കൂട്ടത്തിലുണ്ട്. തണുത്ത പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ മുതൽ ഭൂമദ്ധ്യരേഖയോട് ചേർന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ വരെ ഈ വൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഏഷ്യയിലും അമേരിക്കൻ ഭൂഖണ്ഡങ്ങളിലും ഇവ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. അമേരിക്കയിലും മെക്സിക്കോയിലും ചൈനയിലും ധാരാളം സ്പീഷീസ് ഓക്കുകളുണ്ട്.[2]
