  1. Bell and his parents immigrated to Canada in 1870, but Canadian citizenship did not exist formally until 1910; all immigrants from the UK remained "British subjects". Canada was Bell's domicile from 1870 to 1871 and, although sent by his father to teach in Boston, Massachusetts, perhaps beyond. He became a U.S. citizen in 1882.
