Shinjuku (新宿区, Shinjuku-ku) is one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo, Japan. The administration center of the government of Tokyo Prefecture is in Shinjuku.[1] Also in Shinjuku is the biggest railway station in the world, Shinjuku Station.

History

On 15 March 1947, the ward of Shinjuku was formed by combining the wards of Ushigome, Yodobashi, and Yotsuya.[2]

In 1991, the Tokyo Government moved from the Marunouchi district of Chiyoda to the current building in Shinjuku.

Geography

Surrounding Shinjuku are six other wards: Chiyoda to the east; Bunkyo and Toshima to the north; Nakano to the west, and Shibuya and Minato to the south.
