Etymology
Yangon (ရန်ကုန်) is a combination o the twa wirds yan (ရန်) an koun (ကုန်), which mean "enemies" an "run oot o" respectively. It is forby translatit as "End o Strife". "Rangoon" maist likely comes frae the Breetish imitation o the pronunciation o "Yangon" in the Rakhine dialect (Arakanese) o Burmese, which is [rɔ̀ɴɡʊ́ɴ].
